Warner Music Group, which pulled its videos from YouTube in late 2008 following a disagreement over licensing rates, has inked a deal with Google to put its catalog back onto the YouTube video streaming site.
YouTube’s head of music partnerships Chris Maxcy confirmed the deal In a press conference Tuesday morning and said it covers official videos as well as user-generated videos that make use of Warner’s music. Talks apparently never ceased between the two companies; the hold-up in getting Warner’s music back onto YouTube had to do in part with aligning publishers (Warner Chappell, songwriters) and sound recording copyright holders (Warner Music Group, artists).
