The Biggest Contest Yet! – Dark Horse Eisner Nominees [Contest]

Pads and Panels have a Dark Horse related contest up at their site with your chance to win a whole whost of DH comics, including The Umbrella Academy!

It is time for what amounts to the biggest Pads & Panels contest yet. Dark Horse Comics has been kind from the very beginning, providing a wealth of books as giveaways to our fine readers. The company has overdone itself this time, putting together an incredible comic giveaway. As comic fans may have heard, Dark Horse did quite well for itself with this year’s Eisner Award nominations, racking up 13 individual honors and five shared. So in honor of the achievement, the company has put together and Eisner nominees pack, comprising:

Usagi Yojimbo 22 Tomoe’s Story
Groo Hell on Earth TPB
Herbie Archives Vol. 1
Wondermark HC Vol. 1
DHP Myspace Vol. 2
Creepy Archives Vol. 1 HC
Umbrella Academy TPB Vol. 1
BPRD: The Warning TPB
Buffy Season Eight Vol. 2 TPB
Grendel: Behold the Devil Issues 0-8

This is the type of contest that makes us all consider quitting as staff members just to be eligible. Damn, our readers are so spoiled. That, and we make it so darn easy. We’re doing another comment contest, because we simply love to see everyone active on the site, and then reward one of those people. Users can earn one (1) entry per post by commenting on any post that goes up through Tuesday, June 30 at 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time, starting with this contest post. At the end of the contest period, we will randomly select one winner from all eligible entries received.

In response to this post, please give us your predictions for the Eisner winners, which will be announced at Comic-Con International next month. The full list can be seen HERE.

Rockin’On Magazine extract, new Video Archive layout…

As the guys are busy tracking the new album, things are pretty quiet around here. I’ve put up a new layout at the Video Archive – I’m going to add some more videos soon – and thanks to the MCR LJ community, here are some quotes from Gerard’s recent interview with Rockin’On Magazine:

Who is currently moving you musically at the moment?
Recently I like the new Glasvegas album very much, I think they’re a great band, so I’m excited about them, and I’m looking forward to MEW’s new album, Rich Costy is producing it and he produced Glasvegas’s album too…..And also I’m listening to lots of older stuff like the Stooges, the old Damned albums, like really punky stuff, I like artists with very raw performance, and that’s the direction we are trying for the new album.

What kind of emotion is pouring out of you now?
A lot of excitement, really, I don’t have beefs with anybody I don’t have any problems I’m basically very happy but there’s this reckless kind of excitement with what we can do with music and that’s what we are all excited about

They started to work on new songs in October 08, after they did the second recordings of “Desolation Row” in NY

What happened to the “new song” we can hear on the Black Parade Is Dead! DVD?
That’s a very good question. I don’t know! (laughs) …We have to see. We haven’t even touched it, what we’ve been working on are completely new songs. so we haven’t really delved into it

- He never wants to be a solo artist but he wants to keep writing songs for other people because he thinks it’s a healthy thing to do and some of his favorite songs are the ones that his favorite artists wrote for other people, like “All the Young Dude” written by David Bowie for Mott the Hoople.

- At the time of the interview, the producer was not confirmed yet, but he said they were talking with Brendan O’Brien and if they could actually work with him the new album would be finished quickly because Brendan is known for working quickly, and that’s what they want this time around, especially after the long and hard work for the Black Parade.

- He couldn’t say if they’d play new songs at Summer Sonic for sure but he said he knew that the next time they’d play a show, that’d be when they’d play new songs.

I’m still looking for fan donations – videos, icons, banners, drawings etc – if you have anything you’d like to share, feel free to send it in!

Update Roundup

Hey everyone! I’ve been away for the past few days, so here’s a brief roundup of the latest updates:

The My Chemical Romance online store has just marked down a bunch of merch up to 50% off. Some of it is on its last run and there are only limited quantities left, so this may be the last chance to get some classic MCR merch.

Also on any purchases over $50 you will receive a free “Entombed T-Shirt.” Click here to head to MCR’s sale section.

Ray has been posting a few updates whilst the guys are tracking the new album:

Jun 11: Hey everyone, we officially start tracking today! Excited??? Yeah, us too! If I get around to it, maybe I’ll post some updates from the studio!

Jun 12: tracking day #2 is going great. this shit is too much fun…

Jun 13: Day 3 of tracking. Things are still motoring along. Bob is playing great, so we’re continuing the fast pace. Great vibe here at the studio, Brendan is a lot of fun to work with, and is very focused and energetic. Rest of the band is playing great too. The time in rehearsals really paid off, as we’re getting a good idea of what songs will sound like when the rest of tracking is done. Off to enjoy a frosty Cola!

Finally, a brief video of the guys talking about Summersonic:
