MCR VINYL, TWITTERS, AND MORE?

MCR: BLOGGING AND TWITTERING LIKE MAD

Unless you’ve been holed up in a cave somewhere for the last few weeks, you know that MCR have relaunched mychemicalromance.com into a place where the band can blog and twitter like fiends. They’ve been updating their blogs 4 or 5 times a day, ranging from subjects like Gerard’s reviews of reality shows, to Ray’s video game geek-outs, to Frank’s pug’s Halloween costume, to Mikey’s obsessions with giant squids, and Bob’s scavenger hunt game with Gerard. You can also check out their Twitter postings, which includes such tasty nuggets as ‘Bob if I burn down my house will you take care of my dogs thanks’ and ‘I’m a level 72 Blood Elf/Hunter…’

VINYL IS FUN

EXCLUSIVE: Gerard Way Says MCR’s Track For ‘Watchmen’ Integral To The Ending

On top of being a certified rock star, My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way is also living the life that most of us geeks can only dream of. In addition to his hit comic book series, Dark Horse Comics’ ‘The Umbrella Academy’ (the new ‘season’ of which ‘Umbrella Academy: Dallas’ we previewed here on Splash Page a few weeks back), Way and the boys of MCR are also contributing a song for the upcoming, ridiculously-anticipated comic flick, ‘Watchmen.’ For Way – a hardcore fan of the original groundbreaking comic series – it couldn’t get any better-or could it?

‘I don’t want to say too much but as far as the placement right now, it’s integral to the ending of the film,’ said Way, revealing that things have changed since our earlier report that MCR’s cover of ‘Desolation Row’ would be confined to playing over the end credits. ‘And that gave me goose bumps, and not because we did the song, but because it works that well I feel. I’ve seen the part that we’re integral to – we’re talking about the very end.’

Way’s enthusiasm for his music’s place in what is easily the film that any comic book fan worth their Mylar are counting down to can only be outdone by his love of the source material. When asked for his personal take on the hotly-debated, controversial ending, Way let his nerd flag fly.

‘Whenever I see a change like that in the film, you simply have to ask yourself, ‘Does this change actually make more sense?’ said Way. ‘It’s not an ego thing. And that’s the one thing that fans need to understand: none of it is to appease the studio. I know [director] Zack [Snyder] has fought really hard to keep this a pure vision. And I think the change that people are mentioning doesn’t make it an impure thing.’

And like any true-blue fanboy, once you get Way going on a comic that he loves, it’s hard to get him to stop.

‘I personally loved the giant squid – and I’ve always loved giant squids – but from what I’m hearing, the changes he’s made reels it into the actual characters, and actually, in some ways, makes more sense.’ Way continued. ‘You’ve always got to remember, the comic’s the comic, and the film’s the film. First of all, I don’t think it’s going to be bad, but if something like that were to happen, the comics still my comic. It does things in the comic that you’ll never do in a film. And that’s just what it is.’

MCR fans – are you happy to hear that ‘Desolation Row’ will now be playing at an ‘integral’ part of ‘Watchmen’? ‘Watchmen’ fans – do you agree with Way’s take on the ending to the film? Let’s hear it in the comments.

Umbrella Academy/Dallas Goodies

Lots of news lately! Since MCR signed up to Twitter, they’ve been posting non-stop, plus posting blogs at the newly revamped site. Most recently, Gerard posted a review of zombie-killer game Left 4 Dead and talks about Scream Queens and The Pickup Artist 2.

Since Dallas hit the shelves on November 26 (my birthday!) I have been uploading some more TAU-related images to the gallery. More on the way!

My Chemical Romance Guitarist Readies Side Project

Frank Iero, guitarist from the hugely successful My Chemical Romance is about to release the first album from his side project, Leathermouth.

Iero said in a press release, ‘I think there is a void of bands that are outspoken on things that actually matter.

‘There’s too much bad hair and white belts. Sometimes it nice to turn your brain off and just listen to someone sing about girls. I’m not knocking it. I do think there is a time and a place. But LeATHERMOUTH isn’t like that…it’s about hate. Hate that boils up inside and eats away at you, if you don’t vomit it up you know it will eventually destroy you.’

Sounds pretty angry.

The album will be called XO. The full track listing is:

1. 5th Period Massacre – 2:16
2. Catch Me If You Can – 2:31
3. This Song Is About Being Attacked By Monsters – 2:40
4. I Am Going To Kill The President Of The United States Of America – 2:59
5. Murder Was The Case That They Gave Me – 2:47
6. Sunsets Are For Muggings – 1:57
7. My Lovenote Has Gone Flat – 2:21
8. Your Friends Are Full Of Shit – 2:07
9. Bodysnatchers 4 Ever – 2:11
10. Leviathan – 2:12

The band will be touring ‘sporadically’ throughout 2009, but it will only happen between Iero’s My Chemical Romance commitments.

The album is out on January 24 through Shock in Australia.
